The Challenge for
Girls in Sports

Sports play a vital role in children’s development, helping them grow in critical thinking, leadership, teamwork, resilience, and overcoming obstacles. Despite these benefits, girls, especially in under- resourced areas, face significant barriers to sports participation. Barriers such as lack of access, safety concerns, transportation issues, and fewer spaces for girl’s youth sports contribute to lower participation rates.

Philly Girls Got Game (PG3)

Philly Girls Got Game (PG3) is a citywide initiative that unites youth sports providers, safe spaces, and well-designed programs to help girls thrive through sports and physical activities. PYSC partners with Philadelphia Parks and Recreation, the Philadelphia School District, our member organizations, and like-minded communities to create and enhance sports programs for girls.

PG3 events connect girls with female coaches and university women’s sports teams. Our clinics provide personal experiences with successful female athletes, inspiring girls to stay active. We also link girls to quality local sports programs and offer health education for 2nd to 8th graders. Additionally, we advocate for equitable access to sports spaces throughout Philadelphia, fostering a more inclusive community.
