Beth Devine, Executive Director
Beth Devine was named the Executive Director of PYSC in May, 2016. Devine has an extensive background in sports-based youth programming, most recently having founded Philly Girls in Motion, an organization that delivers physical activity and sports programs for girls in schools and communities throughout Philadelphia. Beth started the organization with the help of then Councilman, now Mayor Jim Kenney, who asked her to build a basketball program in South Philadelphia in partnership with the six Division I women’s basketball programs located in Philadelphia. Beth went on to serve on Mayor Kenney’s Transition Team as the Co-Chair of the Community and Culture Committee, focusing on programming for youth in our schools and Parks and Recreation facilities.
Previously, Beth gathered knowledge in relationship building, marketing, fundraising, and event planning through her work at great organizations like the American Cancer Society, The Philadelphia Big 5, and O’Neill Properties Group.
Mike Barsotti, Director of External Relations
Mike joined PYSC in May 2019. In this role, Mike leads the Collaborative's development efforts, supports and develops valuable programming for PYSC member organizations and drives outreach and recruitment of new members. Mike began his career in Independent Minor League Baseball, pitching for the Joliet Slammers of the Frontier League. After retiring from baseball, Mike spent several years in Pennsylvania government and politics, serving as the Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff in Governor Tom Wolf’s administration, and holding senior staff roles on Katie McGinty’s campaigns for US Senate and PA Governor. Following the 2016 campaign cycle, he joined Militia Hill Ventures as an associate, leading operations for the firm. In 2018 Mike co-founded and was chosen by the board to serve as Executive Director for PhillyBio, a new 501(c)(6) devoted to developing Philadelphia’s life science ecosystem.
Mike was born and raised in Philadelphia. He received his B.A. in Government with a concentration in American Politics from Wesleyan University. While at Wesleyan, he was captain of the varsity baseball team and a social chair for his fraternity, Delta Kappa Epsilon.
Madison Beecher, Communications and Administrative Coordinator
Madison Beecher joined PYSC in October 2020. In this role, Madison works to produce branded content and maintain relationships through the organization’s social media platforms.
Madison is originally from Atlanta, GA where her heavy involvement in soccer and track ran by local youth sports programs grew her love for sport. She then pursued her Bachelors of Science degree in Sport and Recreation Management from Temple University and graduated in 2020. During her time as an undergraduate student, she dedicated her time to being a full time D1 collegiate track athlete and maintained internships with the City of Philadelphia, Temple Athletics, and the Philadelphia Phillies
Emily DeSabato, Youth Engagement in Sports Initiative Program Manager
Emily joined the Collaborative team in December 2019 as the Youth Engagement in Sports Initiative (YES) Program Manager. In this role, she has implemented the Collaborative’s afterschool programming for middle school in North and West Philadelphia. She works closely with member organizations, Temple University professors and researchers, School District of Philadelphia staff, the coaching staff, and most importantly, the Game on Philly athletes and their families. The YES Initiative focuses on increasing the daily minutes of physical activity and consumption of healthy fresh fruits and vegetables. This program is federally funded through the Office of Women’s Health.
Emily has a background in public health, health disparities, and program design and management and holds a B.A. Anthropology, B.A. in Sociology, and a Certificate in Research in Health and Medicine from Indiana University and a Masters of Public Health from the University of Indianapolis. She is a lifelong athlete and experienced runner, competing in collegiate and elite national levels in road racing and track and field. She aims to qualify for 2024 Olympic Marathon Trials. Originally from Indianapolis, Indiana but she absolutely loves Philadelphia (and Gritty!). In her free time, you can find her running or hiking with her dogs along the Wissahickon, drinking too much coffee, and trying new sports like cycling and tennis.
Becca Fagan, Director of Programs and Evaluation
Becca Fagan joined PYSC in April 2019. After 5 years with the City of Philadelphia, with both the Philadelphia Water Dept. and Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, she is glad to bring her extensive experience in community relations and communications to the programming sector of PYSC. A native Philadelphian, and a former high school and collegiate athlete, she is thrilled to move back into the world of athletics and youth development. Having grown up within the Philadelphia rec system, she recognizes the importance of access and equity in programming and is excited to contribute to the work being done at PYSC.
Becca holds a BBA in Sport & Event Management from The George Washington University. During her time at GW she was an active member of the GW Crew team, as well as Captain of GW Women’s Rugby. She maintains a foothold in the Philadelphia sports community as the current Captain of Philadelphia Women’s Rugby Football Club.
